The urban farmers’ market will not only sell produce farmed by the local community but, will also be a space for local artisans to sell their goods too.
In 2020, the NGO African Artists for Development (AAD), based in Paris, France, set up the Resistance 2020 program, funding 3 impact projects across 3 African countries in support of communities during COVID-19. In this program AAD is joining forces with Growbox, to launch a fully-fledged vegetable production farm in Hanover Park on the Cape Flats.

The purpose of this market is to cater to low income households that cannot afford store bought produce. At the same time it will provide a safe, family friendly and holistic place for economic opportunities for vendors who will be exhibiting at the market.
Those financially affected by the pandemic will gain experience in both farming produce and selling it at the Urban Farmers’ Market.
